Lisa Fortenbaugh is the Founder and CEO of Platinum HR Consulting Group. Lisa possesses over twenty-five years of comprehensive national and international Human Resource experience. She holds a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management from Chapman University, a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and maintains the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification from the Society for Human Resource Management.
Since its passage by the Legislature and enactment by Governor Newsom last year, AB 5 has been the topic of much debate and discussion about its potential to impact not only independent contractors throughout California but also the businesses that hire them, as well as other workers. Since coming into law on January 1, many workers in California have seen their work opportunities disappear or drastically cut back. Already, the law has been challenged in whole or part in court by a number of lawsuits. In addition, both ballot measures and legislation has been introduced to mitigate its harm by either repealing many of its provisions or granting more exemptions than were included in AB 5 originally.
