In June 1962, Barney Jordan, President of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, and George Strachan, Manager, invited a group of eleven business women and home executives to a meeting to discuss the possibility of establishing a Women’s Division of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce. Interest ran high and a Pilot committee was formed to develop plans.
In January 1963, the WDCC was chartered with Sarah Fay Pearson as Charter President and 109 interested women. A firm foundation was laid for a successful organization dedicated to the betterment of Anaheim and its citizenry through service rendered by our “Women Devoted to Community Character”. During the following years, the WDCC has continued to grow in stature and prestige and continues to be an important part of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce to support the Chamber’s purpose in promoting the economic, civic and social welfare of the people of Anaheim.
Events and projects sponsored by the WDCC, planned and carried out by its member/committees through their monthly board meetings and luncheon meetings include contributions in the field of Public Affairs, Education, Cultural Arts and Civic improvements, together with recognition given to women for exemplary community service in the City of Anaheim.
